Questions

Straight answers for a work injury claim

If your question isn't here, call or text. We answer in English or Spanish.

First steps

What should I do right after I get hurt?

Tell your supervisor the same day if you can, see a doctor and tell them it happened at work. Keep every piece of paper you're given.

How long do I have to file?

Deadlines differ by state and by kind of injury, and some are short. Don't wait to feel worse: call us and we'll check your date.

Can I be fired for filing a claim?

Your employer can't punish you for reporting an injury or filing a claim. If something changed at work after you reported it, tell us.

I don't have papers. Can I still file?

In many states workers' comp covers you whatever your immigration status. We don't ask about status to help you.

Benefits

What is time-loss pay?

It's part of your wages, paid while your doctor says you can't work. It's figured from what you earned, and we check it counts overtime and seasonal work.

What if the doctor clears me for light duty?

Your employer may offer you a different job while you heal. If the job doesn't fit what the doctor wrote, or none is offered, call us before you decide.

What's a settlement, and should I take one?

It's an agreement to close the claim in exchange for a payment. Before signing, check with someone whether your treatment is done and what you give up by taking it.

Our office

How much does it cost?

The first review is free. If we take your case, our fee is a percentage of the benefits we recover, limited by law and put in writing. No fee unless we recover benefits; you may still owe case costs, such as medical record copies, and we explain them before you sign.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. Many clients only ever talk to us by phone and text. If you'd rather come in, we're on Court Street with parking out front.

Can we talk in Spanish?

Yes. Leticia and Eliseo both speak Spanish, and we'll explain every paper we send you in the language you prefer.

Still wondering?

Ask us about your own claim

Every claim has its own dates and details. A short call sorts out which answers apply to you.
